How It Works
Choosing support for your child can feel overwhelming, particularly if you've never worked with a practitioner or therapist before.
My aim is to make the process as simple and reassuring as possible.
Sometimes it helps just to talk things through with someone who understands.
Book a free consultation and ask any questions you have about the twelve week programme.
Book a Free Parent Consultation
1
The first step is an informal video consultation or phone call where we'll talk about what's been happening for your child, any concerns you have and what you're hoping to achieve.
This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, understand how Drawing Comfort works, and decide whether it feels like the right fit for your family.
There is no obligation to continue afterwards.
Planning Your Child's Programme
2
If we decide to work together, we'll arrange a start date and book all twelve sessions for your child in advance.
Sessions take place on the same day and at the same time each week, helping to create a predictable routine that children quickly become familiar with.
Depending on your child's circumstances, sessions can take place within school or in the private Community Room at The Walled Garden in Little Plumstead, Norwich.
Supporting
You
3
We'll also schedule dates for your parenting support sessions.
These are usually via video call, however I'm also happy to meet in person.
Your sessions are an ideal opportunity to share what's going well, ask questions, and to tackle any concerns.
By the end of each parenting support session, you'll have various strategies to try out during your child's twelve week programme.
Building
Trust
4
The early sessions focus on helping your child feel comfortable and safe.
They need time to build trust, understand the environment and develop a relationship before deeper therapeutic work begins.
Exploring
Emotions
5
As trust develops, children begin exploring thoughts, feelings and experiences either through therapeutic drawing or sand play.
This process happens naturally and at the child's own pace, allowing them to express emotions that may otherwise be difficult to put into words.
I won't ask your child to talk about their own experiences or feelings. Instead, we'll use the safety of their drawing or sand world to explore a variety of stories, feelings, and challenges.
Practical Wellbeing Activities
6
As part of their sessions, your child will learn a range of practical wellbeing strategies and calming activities that they can use when big feelings begin to bubble up.
These simple, age-appropriate techniques are designed to help them feel more settled in the moment.
They also support children to better understand their emotions, recognise what they are feeling, and develop healthy ways to express and manage those feelings over time.
Moving
Forward
7
As the programme progresses, many children begin developing greater emotional awareness, healthier coping strategies and increased confidence.
Every child's journey is different, but the aim is always the same: to help them better understand their emotions so every day life begins to feel more manageable.
