Common Questions

What age range do you support?

Drawing Comfort supports children from age four to adults aged 104!

No matter your age or stage of life, therapeutic drawing and sand play provides a safe, creative space to better understand your emotions, build resilience and increase confidence.

My child doesn't like talking about their feelings - can you still help?

Absolutely.

Many of the children I work with find talking difficult.

Therapeutic drawing and sand play allow children to communicate in different ways, helping them express feelings without needing to find the right words.

Can you share information with my child's school?

I'm more than happy to include your child's teacher following their weekly sessions.

Sharing relevant information enables their teacher to provide appropriate support, make suitable adjustments where needed, and create a positive learning environment that promotes your child's wellbeing, confidence, and progress.

How long does the programme of support last for?

The programme always consists of twelve consecutive weekly sessions.

Building trust takes time, and consistency is an important part of feeling emotionally safe.

What happens after the twelve week support programme has finished?

Towards the end of the programme we'll review the progress that's been made and discuss any next steps together.

Where do sessions

take place?

Sessions can either take place within your child's school, where appropriate, in my therapeutic room in Acle, or in the private Community Room at The Walled Garden in Little Plumstead, Norwich.

I've run out of ideas on how to support my child - can you help?

Parents often tell me how they're struggling to find effective strategies to manage their child's behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

To address this issue, we can arrange parent support sessions either via video call or in person.

Each session provides the opportunity for you to talk about what's happening, for us to explore a variety of strategies, and to assess progress made.

Will I know how my child

is getting on?

Parents remain an important part of the process.

You're welcome to ask about their progress throughout the programme whilst also respecting your child's confidential therapeutic space.

Is it important to enjoy drawing or be 'good' at it?

Not at all.

The focus is never on artistic ability but on providing a safe way to communicate.

Therapeutic sand play is also available for children who would prefer this option.

How long does each

session last for?

Sessions usually last for 50 minutes to an hour.

This gives enough time to settle in, complete the drawing or sand world, and choose a wellbeing strategy or activity to practise for the following week.

What if my child or I can't attend because of illness or holiday?

Simply send me an email or text to let me know.

I'll add the session onto the end of the twelve week programme.
